International companies invest in Greece
More and more companies with an international name and reputation are investing in Greece, writes Ekathimerini. The government of the country seeks to simplify the conduct of business and facilitate bureaucratic procedures.
Many international companies are strengthening their presence in Greece or entering this market for the first time. Among them are Pfizer, Tesla, Volkswagen, Cisco, SAP, Amazon and eBay. The surge in activity started about seven months ago and is now gaining momentum when the first contracts are signed.
Most companies that invest in Greece are engaged in new technologies. This stimulates the market for applied innovation and research, and can also stop the “brain drain” from the country, writes Ekathimerini.
SAP. German tech giant SAP recently announced the launch of a talent program. The company will train 300 young people and make them professionals in the field of technology.
PwC. And the international consulting company PwC will strengthen its presence in Thessaloniki and open 100 vacancies there.
Cisco. The American technology conglomerate Cisco is investing about 12 million euros to create an international center for the development of innovation and digital skills in Thessaloniki. The center’s field of activity is developing technologies for smart cities and the Internet of things, as well as applications in the fields of health, agriculture, tourism and environmental protection.
Amazon. American retail giant Amazon has invested in the creation of Amazon CloudFront Edge in Athens. This initiative will unite Greece and the rest of South-Eastern Europe into a single network of web services. The company has already signed a Memorandum of cooperation with the Ministry of digital management of Greece.
eBay. Another major initiative is being implemented by eBay, which introduced its innovative eBay Export Revival program in Athens. The program is implemented in 15 countries and provides training in international sales for small and medium-sized business owners.
Pfizer. Pharmaceutical company Pfizer will open a digital innovation center in Thessaloniki in early 2021. It will employ scientists specializing in artificial intelligence, big data and cybersecurity. It is expected that 250 jobs will be created as part of this initiative.
Tesla. The American company Tesla invests 10 million euros in the development of the” electric highway ” in Greece. The route with recharges for electric vehicles will be laid from Portugal through Spain, France, Italy and Greece to Turkey. The Greek section will start in the Western port of Patras and end in Alexandroupoli in the North-East of the country.
Volkswagen. And Volkswagen plans to pilot its Autonomous driving program in a remote part of Greece. The agreement is expected to be signed in the next few weeks.
